Arizona walked off the Yankees 5-3 in Phoenix, with Pavin Smith's two-run homer in the bottom of the ninth deciding a game that had been tied since the sixth. Heliot Ramos and Austin Wells homered in the sixth to put New York up 3-2, but Corbin Carroll's sacrifice fly tied it, and Michael Fulmer couldn't escape the ninth. Cam Schlittler struck out six over six innings for the Yankees, and Jordan Lawlar's two-run triple keyed the Diamondbacks' early offense.

The bigger story in the Bronx universe is Aaron Judge: the Yankees placed their captain on the 10-day injured list Saturday with a right calf strain to the soleus muscle. The earliest he could return is the season finale on September 27, and Judge - who said he's targeting a return before the playoffs - admitted he has no timeline. The loss leaves the Yankees five games back in the AL East; Arizona sits four back of the NL's third wild card.
